We’ve all felt it. That tension between wanting to do what’s right and actually doing it.
Jesus said it best: “The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak.” It’s not a condemnation–it’s a warning. A gentle reminder that our hearts can be in the right place, and yet our humanity can still pull us off course.
We want to follow God. We want to love others well. We want to choose joy, patience, purity, peace. But then life hits. We get tired. Frustrated. Distracted. Tempted. And suddenly, that willingness fades behind the noise of everything else.
The good news? Jesus understands. He spoke those words to His disciples when they fell asleep in the garden–right before He faced the cross. He didn’t shame them; He urged them to watch and pray so they wouldn’t fall into temptation.
That’s the invitation for us, too. When our flesh is weak, prayer is our lifeline. It’s what keeps our spirit awake when the world lulls us to sleep.
So today, don’t be discouraged if you’re struggling to stay strong. You’re not alone in the fight. Just keep your eyes open. Keep praying. Keep walking.
The Spirit is willing–and by His strength, we can be too.
