Obedience is something many of us wrestle with. It’s closely tied to authority, and that can feel like a threat to our independence. Most of us don’t enjoy being told what to do or how to do it.
That tension doesn’t disappear in our spiritual lives. While God gives us the freedom to choose, He also reveals a path that leads to life. The challenge is deciding whether we’ll trust Him enough to follow it.
Too often, we reduce obedience to a simple scorecard of right and wrong—as if we’re either succeeding or failing God. But obedience is about much more than avoiding sin. It’s also about responding when God invites us to take a step of faith, pursue a new opportunity, or walk through a door He’s opening. Ignoring those promptings or continually putting them off is its own form of disobedience.
God has blessings prepared for each of us, but they often require us to move when He calls. We can choose to step forward in faith, or we can stay where we are and miss what He wanted to do in and through us.
The encouraging news is that God’s grace doesn’t run dry. When we miss an opportunity, He doesn’t abandon us. He patiently continues to lead, offering new chances to trust Him, obey His voice, and discover the blessings that come from walking with Him.
